Pietarilan luhtitalot

Close to Nature

Important design principles were the functionality of the apartments and easy access to nature. The houses have a direct connection to the shore of the river Iijoki.

Construction of Pietarila began in April 2017 and ended in February 2018 when residents moved into their new homes.

Built of a single-material modern log, the three  houses were born quickly and also gained their occupancy quickly. Some of the 24 apartments are larger for families with more than one person, some are better suited for single households. The houses are so close to the Log Campus that even small school children can walk on it. The services of the city center are also close by.

The appearance of the old farmhouses inspired the architect in the design. The exterior walls have been treated with dark reddish brown, emphasizing the surface structure of the wood. The log surfaces inside also bring closeness to nature, as the wood surface is covered only when it is necessary.

Important design principles were the functionality of the apartments and easy access to nature. The houses have a direct connection to the shore of the river Iijoki. The houses have a rosy floor.
